Fingernail braces are set to become easier to access – changes coming in July 2025
Consistent performance for greater clarity
What was previously complicated thanks to different types of braces is now being standardised: In future, services relating to nail brace treatment will be grouped under a single description – entirely regardless of which brace system is used. This change applies to diagnostic groups UI 1 and UI 2.
The decision as to which brace is most suitable naturally stays within the therapeutic responsibility of the podiatrists.
Structured guidelines and a clear framework
The new service description – providing clarity. It gives all the key details regarding:
- Scope of services
- Standard service times
- Documentation requirements
Important: For prescriptions issued from 1 October 2025 onwards, only the new regulations apply. Prescriptions with an earlier issue date remain valid as before – regardless of the date of treatment.
What’s changing:
Follow-up appointments now clearly defined
Until now, it was unclear how many follow-up appointments were permitted in connection with nail brace treatment. From July 2025, this will also be regulated: The number of possible follow-up appointments is now definitively determined by the number of prescribed treatment sessions.
Clearly specify the location
In the past, differing interpretations regarding the specification of the toe to be treated have taken place repeatedly, leading to queries. The location is now clearly defined so that billing is ensured.
Remuneration rises – despite a tight financial situation
With the current economic challenges in the healthcare sector, a two-stage remuneration adjustment has been agreed. The following factors were taken into account:
- increased living and operating costs
- current collective wage agreements
- the commercial rent index
Especially focused on: the home visit surcharge, which is given greater weight. The new system not only provides greater structure but also brings tangible relief to practice operations. Podiatrists can look forward to clearer billing and transparent documentation.
