What are nail instruments used for?
Depending on the type and design, nail instruments are used in podiatry, pedicure and manicure. With the instrument, this can involve both medical and beauty applications. Possible uses include:
- Delicate, precision work on or within the nail fold
- Work on or under the nail
- Filing and exposing trapped corners in the nail fold
- Callus removal
- Wound irrigation and ointment injection
- Precise work in the spaces between the toes
- Mixing, applying and removing adhesive material or nail compound
- Applying dressings
- Applying and removing balm
- Probing the nail fold
- Examination and cleaning of the nails
- Lancing blackheads, styes, etc.
What types of nail instruments are there?
In our large product range of nail instruments, you will find various tools for different purposes, which are used time and again in everyday practice. These include, amongst others:
- Nail fold instruments: This category includes various designs such as double-sided nail fold and nail instruments for a wide range of works around the nail, in the nail fold, for inserting dressings, for removing adhesive material or for applying nail compound. Double-ended spoon instruments prove similarly versatile for work in the nail fold. Hollow chisels, with their fine, rounded tips, are in turn suitable for callus removal, for treating hard-to-reach areas or for nail fold work. The so-called excavator also enables professional care and treatment of nails and the nail fold.
- Nail lifters: With a nail lifter, you benefit from easy, precise handling thanks to lightweight versions with a hollow handle and a left-curved end with a rounded tip. Nail lifters are available in both single-sided and double-sided versions. They are used for nail procedures, particularly in the nail fold and for tamponade.
- Nail cleaning: When treating wounds on the nail, hygienic and thorough cleaning of the nail and wound is essential. For this purpose, sterile instruments for nail cleaning such as disposable cannulas, disposable button cannulas, disposable syringes, along with cleaning instruments for injury-free and gentle nail cleaning and examination are used. This also includes sterile single-use blood lancets for lancing blackheads or styes.
- Nail knives: High-quality nail fold knives enable non-irritating, relieving probing of the nail fold.
- Tamponade hooks: Thin strips of non-woven fabric or cotton wool are used as tamponades when treating ingrown nails or curled nails. Tamponading instruments and cotton wool hooks are used to insert tampons without causing injury.
- Corner files: Work on the nail fold also includes filing or exposing trapped corners within the nail fold. Single- or double-sided corner files with narrow or wide ends are used for this purpose. You will also find combinations of spoon instruments and corner files in our product range.
What are the directions for properly maintaining nail instruments?
When carrying out medical or beauty work on nails, reliable skin and hand hygiene is essential. Particularly when treating wounds, it is essential to ensure that the directions for using clean, sterile instruments are followed. For this reason, all our nail instruments can be reliably disinfected and sterilised. Ideally, they should be used in conjunction with disposable medical gloves.
Along with ensuring hygiene and long-lasting material quality, we also recommend storing nail instruments in a dry, protected place and performing regular cleaning after each treatment or wound care session.
