Orthoses for bespoke correction and relief

Injuries, medical conditions or malalignments set larger strain on the feet. To provide relief and correction, we provide orthoses as orthopaedic aids that guarantee your patients stabilisation and pain relief. What are orthoses?

Orthoses are used in podiatry for bespoke pressure relief and stabilisation. In most cases, they are prescribed by podiatrists and orthopaedists to correct malalignments or relieve pressure points using a flexible, mouldable silicone compound. They provide high elasticity and bond comfort with effective stabilisation.

In addition, one can find other orthopaedic aids for stabilising and correcting body parts, body shape or posture, such as splints, corsets, girdles or bandages under the description ‘orthoses’.

What do RUCK orthoses consist of?

Our orthoses are made of two-component silicone (moulding compound and hardener), which can be easily used to create a dimensionally stable, permanently elastic and lightweight silicone mould. Three combinable degrees of hardness are available for a bespoke application. This allows you to benefit from a comfortable, super-soft inner surface yet maintain a firm outer surface. Thanks to the silicone’s lightweight moisturising properties, they deliver pressure- and friction-reducing relief.

For which health problems are orthoses suitable?

Orthoses are suitable for the following applications, providing mouldable stabilisation and acting as pressure protection:

• Foot deformities / foot or nail disorders
• Hammer toe
• Claw toe
• Saddle toe
• Hallux valgus (bunion)
• Neuralgia
• Quintus varus (tailor’s bunion)
• Chronic corns
• Use as a toe lifter
• For straightening toes
• For pressure points between the toes

For individual use, shapes such as heel cups, interdigital wedges, bunion cups, and forefoot pads are suitable. Along with these shapes, products such as foot orthoses and insoles are also suitable.

How are foot orthoses used in podiatry?

In most cases, the process of prescribing, manufacturing and fitting orthoses proceeds as follows:

• Prescription: If health problems or malalignment are identified, then prescribe an orthosis if necessary. A representation of the foot using foam or a footprint helps in assessing malalignment.
• Preparing the two-part orthotic silicone: To make the orthosis, equal quantities of moulding compound and hardener are mixed together, flattened and kneaded thoroughly.
• Creating and fitting the shape: The prepared mixture can now be roughly created. The shape is then fitted to the foot or between the toes and left to set for five minutes.
• Finishing: The fitted shape is removed. After a trial fitting, it can be reworked with scissors or a sander if necessary, or further hardening and shape-forming compounds can be added.
