Certified natural care products in accordance with the NATRUE standard

Unique in the industry: all certified natural care products from peclavus are certified under NATRUE, the international quality seal for genuine natural and organic cosmetics. Through an independent certification process, this seal is provided with products worldwide that meet NATRUE’s highest standards of quality and naturalness.

Natural care, a term not protected by law

The term ‘natural care’ is not protected by law. As a result, the formulations of certain products described as natural may not actually meet these criteria. In some cases, these products may even contain large quantities of non-natural (petrochemical, artificial) ingredients. This is a classic case of ‘greenwashing’. If you are familiar with the INCI declarations on the packaging, it stays unclear where the ingredients come from and how they are obtained. The best way to avoid greenwashing is to look for natural care labels that ensure the product is certified and thus a ‘genuine’ natural care product.

Well for the skin, health and the environment

The active principle of natural care aims to strengthen and support the skin’s regenerative powers and healthy metabolic processes. Vegetable oils are highly similar in structure to the lipids in our skin, which is why the skin can absorb and process these substances well. Artificial oils based on mineral oils have an occlusive effect and, in contrast, cannot be metabolised by the body. Conventional beauty products may also contain ingredients that are harmful to health. There is no place to store these in genuine natural care. Besides the health aspect, the impact on the environment is taken into account: only ingredients that can be safely returned to the natural cycle are permitted.

Why not all products are NATRUE-certified

Not all peclavus products bear the NATRUE seal. As a matter of principle, we ensure that all our products, whether certified or not, work with natural active ingredients. There are active ingredients that have proven their worth, particularly in medically oriented podiatry, but which can't be obtained directly from nature.

The active ingredient urea, for example, is always used if rapid, intense softening of calluses is required. It is therefore often found in callus softeners or in care creams for dry skin. However, as urea is produced artificially, its use in NATRUE-certified products is prohibited. There are also natural care labels that permit urea within their criteria. However, we do not consider it authentic to use a different label for our products containing urea.

A strict and reputable natural care label such as NATRUE goes beyond individual ingredients and considers the formulation fully – including excipients. There are highly strict guidelines regarding which raw materials may be used and in what proportions. Added to this are the requirements for the cultivation of raw materials themselves or the production process. When developing new products, compliance with these criteria is one of the largest challenges and a quality standard that we are happy to meet.

Yet, peclavus has been around for 60 years – a few of today’s formulations still date back to the early days and are very popular. If we were to adapt these so that they meet all NATRUE criteria, we might end up with products that differ too greatly from the characteristics of the original product. That is why we do not incorporate them. But whenever it is possible, we seize the opportunity to use natural and renewable raw materials – for our skin, our health and the environment.

We have never performed animal testing and, of course, do not commission any.

Frequently asked questions and answers

What does the NATRUE certification mean for natural cosmetics?

The NATRUE certification is an internationally recognised seal of quality for genuine natural and organic cosmetics. Products carrying this seal meet strict criteria regarding ingredients, manufacturing processes and sustainability. Synthetic fragrances, colourants and preservatives, as well as mineral oils, silicones and microplastics, are excluded. NATRUE therefore stands for verified, transparent and consistently nature-based formulations.

What advantages does NATRUE-certified natural cosmetics offer for podiatry, foot care and beauty practice?

For professional use, NATRUE-certified natural cosmetics offer a high level of product safety and clear transparency on ingredients. The skin-friendly formulations are tailored to sensitive and stressed skin and are ideally suited to daily use in the practice, studio and during treatment. At the same time, the natural formulation supports a responsible, sustainable approach to running the practice.

How does NATRUE-certified natural cosmetics differ from conventional cosmetics?

Unlike conventional cosmetics, NATRUE-certified natural cosmetics consistently avoid petroleum-based ingredients, synthetic emulsifiers, silicones and artificial preservatives. Instead, plant oils, natural waxes and essential oils are used, which are well tolerated by the skin's physiology and can support the skin's natural functions.

Is NATRUE-certified natural cosmetics suitable for sensitive or diabetic skin?

Yes, many NATRUE-certified products are particularly suitable for sensitive, dry or irritation-prone skin — including for the diabetic foot. By avoiding potentially irritating ingredients and using mild, natural active ingredients, they are ideally suited to professional care in podiatry and foot care. The individual skin situation and proper application remain decisive in every case.
