Step 1

Insert the desired plug through the hole in the smartgel casing (blue for ‘strong’, grey for ‘soft’), or use it without a plug for a simple separating function without any corrective treatment.

Step 2

Attach the pressure relief device to the foot and change the plug as required.

Info-Flyer smartgel plug+switch

Don’t just sell pressure protection – explain it. With this information leaflet, we give you an important resource that guides your customers from the problem at hand, through the principles of action, to the product benefits of the RUCK pressure protection smartgel plug+switch products.

plug+switch – The smart solution with personalized corrective treatment

With the newly developed plug+switch range, the range of uses for correcting misalignments using RUCK Pressure Protection’s classic smartgel products is now even more versatile. plug+switch describes the unique product innovation in which inserts (plugs) made of medical-grade foam with varying degrees of firmness can be replaced (switch) within a ‘smartgel casing’. Whilst the smartgel product in its basic form, without a plug, already delivers noticeable relief and convenient protection against friction, the innovative plug adds an individually adjustable corrective effect for malalignments. Thanks to the small, stretchy recess in the smartgel casing, the various plugs can be inserted entirely and ‘switched’ as required.

The system always includes one hard and one soft plug:
Hardness level “strong” >
The turquoise plug with “strong” hardness delivers maximum corrective treatment for malalignments
Hardness level “soft” > The grey plug with “soft” hardness delivers a lightweight corrective treatment for malalignments

The smartgel products are made of thermoplastic polymer gel. Their heat-sensitive malleability is ideal for adapting to all contours. The polymer gel, developed 100% specifically for medical use, is hypoallergenic, dermatologically tested, antifungal and suitable for diabetics. Thanks to the continuous release of medicinal mineral oils (aloe vera) and natural additives

such as shea butter, the skin is moisturised and becomes soft and silky again, making it especially suitable for dry to extremely dry skin. smartgel is constructed for continuous use and is hand-washable. Environmentally friendly blister packs are available for sale and display stocking, to protect against contamination. For practice use, there is a high-quality, resealable and refillable practice box, as well as cabinet stock at a discounted price.

The malalignments

Deformity of the big toe – Hallux Valgus

Hallux valgus (Latin: valgus = ‘crooked’, ‘skewed’) is a pathological outward deviation of the large toe at the metatarsophalangeal joint. The tendons to the toes no longer run centrally over the joint, but further to the side, pulling the toes into a crooked position. As a splayfoot is usually in place at the same time, the ball of the big toe often protrudes significantly at the inner edge of the foot and painful inflammation frequently develops, caused by pressure from the shoe upper. In addition, pressure from the big toe on the smaller toes often leads to hammer and claw toe malalignments in the neighbouring toes. Hallux valgus can be corrected up to a tilt of approx. 30° thanks to the RUCK Pressure protection.

Overlapping toes

In most cases, overlapping toes are a secondary symptom of hallux valgus. The large toe frequently pushes over or under the other toes, crowding them to such an extent that sometimes the third toe pushes over the fourth and vice versa. The most common cause is shoes that are too tight, which inevitably causes the toes to squeeze closer and closer together and, at some point, even overlap. Other causes can include: genetic predisposition, weakened connective tissue, obesity, rheumatic conditions or prolonged standing.
