An all-rounder for work on nails – the top nipper

More efficient. Faster. More ergonomic

The top nipper is a truly versatile tool: besides the classic task of trimming nails, it is also an excellent instrument for palpation, the tactile examination of the nail fold. Yet it also proves to be an important aid when dealing with pathologically altered nails. Besides the ergonomic benefits, namely working without having to change your grip, it makes more efficient work possible, as palpation can be followed immediately by cutting. The top nipper is suitable both for podiatry and for foot health.

Everything under control

To ensure injury-free and as precise as possible work with the top nipper, it is essential to maintain the correct posture. It’s not that difficult: simply use two fingers to separate the toe you are working on from the other toes of the foot. This creates enough space between the top nipper and the different end of the toe, making it easier to work precisely on the toenail.

Specially designed cutting surfaces

The cutting surfaces of the top nipper are precisely engineered and specially designed. The side tips close first, whilst a small gap stays in the centre of the cutting surface. The more pressure applied when closing, the smaller this gap becomes. Behind this lies a simple yet effective solution: the full cutting force of the top nipper is located primarily on the tips, enabling highly precise work. The sharper the ends of the top nipper are, the easier it is to grip and cut the nail. It is also suitable for working in the nail fold. Yet, the entire cutting surface of the top nipper can be utilised by slightly increasing the pressure when closing the instrument. Thanks to its rounded shape, the nail’s natural curve stays intact. The large benefit of the top nipper is that its two tips allow you to work comfortably in both directions when shortening the nail, without having to reposition your grip.

Ergonomic use with the top nipper

Separate the toe to be cut

To prevent the clippers from cutting into neighbouring toes, the toenail being processed is held apart using the thumb and index finger. Yet the hand holding the clippers has contact with the ball of the foot thanks to the index finger, which helps to prevent the hand from shaking.

Index finger behind the blade

The index finger of the hand that has taken the top nipper has another large benefit. Thanks to covering the open end of the top nipper, nail clippings are not scattered throughout the area but are contained within the work area by the ‘splash guard’. Ideally, all nail clippings are caught with the top nipper and can be emptied into a bin.

The correct cushion area: the palm of the hand

Instruments with a trapezium grip locate perfectly in the hand. This is due not only to the large contact surface, but also to the especially shaped sides. Ideally, the heel of the hand should be completely covered to achieve maximum leverage. This helps to prevent possible injuries, irritation or even inflammation.

Trapezium grip for a perfect hold

The handles are ergonomically designed to fit the curve of the palm – this creates the trapezium grip. This makes it easier to grip the tool and ensures optimum power transfer. Thanks to moving the grip zone to the end of the handle, power transfer is further enhanced, so that cutting performance is improved.

It’s all about your attitude

When working on nails, it is essential to work from the side. This ensures the optimum grip for all instruments and burs. The aim is to can maintain a rounded arm position at all times during the treatment (straight spine, no neck tension). Instead, nippers with two cutting tips are required; otherwise, an unergonomic grip must be used again. With the rounded arm position, we work with one tip of the top nipper from the centre of the nail into the lateral nail fold, and with the different tip from the centre into the medial nail fold.

Handcrafted quality in stainless steel

The RUCK tools, including the top nipper, are produced exclusively from top-quality German stainless steel in traditional Solingen forges and workshops. Thanks to close coordination with us, we achieve a perfect finish and outstanding cutting precision – every piece is a masterpiece of craftsmanship.

Many RUCK instruments are particularly electropolished, a process which involves filing of iron components that are more susceptible to corrosion at the micro-level, resulting in a smoother and cleaner surface. This provides an improved basis for cleaning and sterilisation, along with enhanced corrosion resistance. As a final finish, the instruments receive a process known as passivation. The essential passive layer formed on the surface reinforces the improved properties and protects the instruments in an optimum manner.

The ePolish servicing at the Solingen workshop is an exclusive RUCK servicing! It delivers easier joint cleaning and increases the instrument’s lifespan.
