What is the purpose of orthopaedic products?
Orthopaedic products are used as medical aids if the natural musculoskeletal system is damaged, injured or impaired. They also find use as supportive aids in cosmetic foot treatments. The most important functions include:
- Stabilisation: They support and stabilise affected parts of the body to ensure natural posture and positioning. For example, bandages, plaster casts and splints are used to stabilise fractures, Kinesio tape to stabilise injuries and inflammation, along with back braces to strengthen and correct the spine.
- Protection and care: Another function is wound management and the protection and care of affected areas or body parts. Products used for this purpose include bandages, toe caps and pressure-relieving plasters.
- Relief: Whether for back and joint problems, strains, malalignments or fractures – products designed to relieve pressure include insoles, compression stockings, pressure-relieving plasters and bandages, or felt rings.
- Support: In podiatric or cosmetic foot procedures and treatments, products such as toe separators fulfil a stabilising and supportive function.
- Strengthening, stimulation, training: Whether to stimulate blood circulation and metabolic activity or to aid muscle recovery – products such as foot and massage rollers are used for training, practising movement sequences or strengthening the musculoskeletal system.
What benefits do orthopaedic products provide?
Depending on the area of application and design, our diverse product range provides the following benefits:
- Relief from pain and pressure-related discomfort
- Protection of wounds and injuries
- Acceleration of healing and regeneration
- Improved quality of life and comfort
What types of orthopaedic products and dressings are available?
In our RUCK online shop, you will find a wide selection of orthopaedic dressings and products. These include, amongst others, the following types:
- Pressure protection: For pressure protection in cases of injuries, corns, wounds, malalignments, cracked skin or blisters, products such as corn plasters, toe caps, toe protection rings, pressure protection pads, heel pads along with foot pads.
- Wound dressings: They provide reliable, hygienic wound management by providing dressings and bandages made of muslin, gauze or hydrocolloid and breathable materials to protect, cover and treat wounds.
- Insoles: Insoles correct foot posture, relieve pressure on the foot, facilitate rolling and walking, and improve comfort, recovery and orthopaedic support.
- Orthoses and orthotics: By encasing and stabilising body parts or preventing pressure and friction in the spaces between the toes, orthoses protect and relieve injured or damaged body parts. These include toes, joints, muscles, tendons and bones. You find them in the shape of splints, custom-moulded silicone moulds, corsets, girdles, support devices and bandages.
- Taping: For joint and muscle complaints, strains and inflammation, elastic tapes are applied to the affected areas to provide stabilisation and relief.
- Training aids: In rehabilitation and exercise therapy, training aids support movement sequences and help strengthen the muscles.
- Measuring systems: Whether for determining foot length, shoe size or range of motion – measuring systems help with the determination of important orthopaedic parameters.
- Stockings and compression garments: In cases of venous disorders or circulatory problems, compression stockings relieve pressure on the venous and lymphatic systems.
Other types of socks include protective heel socks, anti-inflammatory and healing silver-thread socks, or toe socks that protect against blisters and improve mobility.
