Orthoses

Orthoses for customised correction and relief

Injuries, illnesses or deformities use feet to a large extent. For relief and correction, we offer orthoses as orthopaedic aids that guarantee your patients stabilisation and pain relief. In our RUCK online shop, you can find two-part orthotics including a shape and hardness set along with foot pressure sheets and foot foam.

What are orthoses?

Orthoses are used in podiatry for customised pressure relief and stabilisation. In most cases, they are prescribed by podiatrists and orthopaedists to correct malpositions or relieve pressure points as a flexible, mouldable silicone mass. They offer high elasticity and combine comfort with effective stabilisation.

Other orthopaedic aids for stabilising and correcting body parts, body shape or posture can also be found under the description "orthoses", for example in the form of splints, corsets, girdles or supports.

What are orthoses from RUCK made of?

Our orthoses are made of two-part silicone (moulding and hardening compound), which can be easily created into a dimensionally stable, permanently elastic and easy-to-process silicone mould. Three combinable degrees of hardness are available for a customised application. In this way, you can use a comfortable, super-soft inner surface yet firm on the outside. Thanks to the slightly moisturising properties of the silicone, they reduce pressure and friction.

What health problems are orthoses suitable for?

Orthoses are suitable for the following areas of application for mouldable stabilisation and pressure protection:

  • Foot malpositions / foot or nail disorders
  • Hammer toe
  • Claw toe
  • Rider's toe
  • Hallux valgus (bunion)
  • Neuralgia
  • Quintus varus (tailor's bunion)
  • Chronic corns
  • Use as a toe dome lifter
  • For straightening toes
  • For pressure points between toes

Shapes such as heel cups, intermediate toe wedges, hallux bunion cups along with forefoot pads are suitable for individual applications.

How are orthoses on the foot used in podiatry?

The prescription, fabrication along with the application of orthoses is usually as follows:

  • Prescription: if a health problem or malposition is detected, then you prescribe an orthosis if required. An image of the foot using foot foam or a footprint helps to assess malpositions.
  • Prepare two-component silicone: To apply, mix equal amounts of Orthoses shape and hardener compound, press flat and knead through.
  • Create and mould: The prepared mass can now be roughly created. The shape is then moulded to the foot or between the toes and set for five minutes.
  • Finishing:The moulded shape is removed. After the trial fitting, the mould can be reworked with scissors or a grinder if necessary, or further hardening and moulding compound can be added.

For those interested, the RUCK Academy offers orthosis workshops on the application of customised pressure relief and correction aids.

All the benefits of orthoses at a glance

Thanks to customisation, Orthoses prove to be pressure relief specialists if different orthopaedic aids are not suitable. The benefits include:

  • Customised production depending on the foot condition or health problems
  • Easy application thanks to user-friendly two-component silicone
  • Three combinable hardness/softness grades (e.g. soft inside, firm outside)
  • Pressure and friction-reducing thanks to slightly moisturising properties
  • Absolutely toxicologically safe + without zinc oxides
  • Suitable for all skin types
  • Also suitable for plaster casts
  • Lasting elasticity and highly adaptable
  • Customised Orthosis shapes for a wide range of health problems and malpositions

Accessories for orthoses

In particular, we offer accessories such as moulding and hardening compounds:

  • Impact foam:Bauerfeind's impact foam provides a three-dimensional representation of the arch or sole of the foot. The foam inserts allow the foot to be imprinted yet again in preparation for an orthosis.
  • PedoPrint:The PedoPrint footprint device provides a convenient visualisation of the sole of the foot. It works according to the ink pad principle and produces true-to-original ink footprints including load peaks.
