What are corns?

Corns - also known as clavi - are unsightly and above all unpleasant calluses on the skin. They mainly contact areas of skin close to bones that are exposed to regular friction or constant pressure. For this reason, corns especially often form on the feet or the little toe.

Why do corns form?

As pressure and friction in particular contribute to the formation of corns, tight, tight shoes are one of the most common causes. However, malpositions such as hammer or claw toes, dry skin or diabetes can also contribute to the formation of corns.

How can corns be discovered?

The main feature of corns is a roundish thickening of the cornea on areas of skin that are frequently exposed to pressure and friction. Inside the thickening is a hard centre or skin spur that grows inwards and pricks the subcutis, bones or nerves like a thorn. This is precisely what causes the unpleasant pressure pain associated with corns, which is focused in the centre. This is where the name "corn" comes from, as the skin spur shimmers glassily through the callus and is reminiscent of a bird's eye.

Signs of corns summarised:

  • feel hard and thickened
  • usually have a beige-yellowish colour
  • between the toes usually lighter in colour and softer in consistency
  • hard, glassy centre (skin spur) inside, which hurts when pressure is applied

Reliably remove corns

In the RUCK product range, you can find various corn products that relieve the pressure pain of your patients and prevent friction. With the help of high-quality corn plasters, the painful thickening of the corns can also be removed reliably and pain-free.

  • Products for relief, protection and cushioning: Relieving and pain-relieving cushioning is required for sensitive corns. Toe pads and toe protection rings are used for this purpose, which protect sensitive areas of skin from pressure or friction in three dimensions.
  • Products for softening and care: plasters for corns enable quick, effective removal of the often painful thickened calluses. They relieve corns and calluses gently and accelerate painless removal.
  • Preventive products: If you are susceptible to corns - for example thanks to misaligned toes or feet - it is advisable to use insoles or heel pads as a preventative measure. In this way, excessive pressure or constant friction can be reliably prevented.

How can corns be prevented?

To prevent corns from forming in the first place, advise your patients to

  • to eliminate tight, pinching shoes.
  • to avoid high heels.
  • to use insoles or heel pads in the event of misalignment.
  • wear thicker socks with new shoes to prevent pressure or friction.

Popular corn products

The following products are mainly used to remove and treat corns:

  • Corn plasters: protect against pressure, friction and contaminants and remove corns thanks to effective, mild softening.
  • Insoles and pads: Take pressure and strain off sensitive corns or prevent the formation of corns in the event of misalignment.
  • Toe or bunion protection rings: Take the pressure off painful corns by distributing it evenly over a large area.
