Plasters

RUCK plasters: For professional wound care, pressure protection or corns

Plasters are part of the standard repertoire in every practice. However, as not every plaster is ideal for every part of the body, wound or health problem, we offer a wide range of plasters in our comprehensive RUCK product range. These include plasters for pressure protection against blisters, friction or corns, for wound care or for securing bandages.

What types of plasters are there?

From small cuts and abrasions to large wounds, pressure sores or increased callus formation - plasters fulfil a wide variety of functions. Common plasters are made from a backing material, adhesive and an absorbent wound dressing. Depending on the intended use, plasters are divided into the following categories:

  • Functionality: The main function of plasters is located in the protection of wounds, sensitive or stressed skin areas or different injured or diseased parts of the body. They can support haemostasis, protect the wound from contaminants and infection, prevent the wound from tearing open or even promote healing thanks to a moist wound environment.
  • Material: Standard plasters also differ thanks to the backing material, which can be made of soft non-woven fabric, robust fabric or waterproof film. You can also find plasters made of especially breathable material, hydrogel plasters made of up to 60 per cent water, strongly adhesive universal plasters or hypoallergenic, skin-friendly sensitive plasters.
  • Shape and size: Plasters are available for a wide range of health problems as small standard plasters, finger strips, elastic fixation fleece with contour adjustment, plasters that can be adapted to flexion points or pressure protection plasters with inner padding. Depending on the size, plasters can also be found in oval, round, rectangular or customisable shapes.

Important properties of plasters

When choosing plasters, the following properties are particularly important:

  • Absorbent, strong material
  • Breathable and air-permeable
  • Waterproof or waterproof as required
  • pain-free and easy to remove
  • in the case of hydrogel plasters: cooling, pain-relieving and promotes a moist wound environment
  • skin-friendly and hypoallergenic
  • for moveable body parts: as elastic as possible
  • for corn plasters: special pressure protection against corns with ingredients such as salicylic acid to remove thick callus

Which plasters are used specifically in podiatry?

The treatment and care of feet places its own demands on plasters and bandages. As toes and feet are subject to a lot of strain, the following plasters are used in podiatry and chiropody, among others:

  • Wound, bond and fixation plasters: classic wound management is also part of everyday practice in the treatment of feet. For this reason, soft, elastic and pliable quick wound dressings that adapt to the contours of the foot are used. Bandages and fixation plasters in turn help with you to secure bandages, fixation bandages or compresses.
  • Corn plasters: Pain relief, pressure protection and healing - corn plasters combine these properties. They distribute pressure evenly over a large area, reduce friction and, if necessary, contain ingredients such as salicylic acid to remove callus.
  • Callus plasters: Callus plasters are used for the general treatment of stubborn, uncomfortable or painful calluses. They also contain ingredients such as salicylic acid, which helps the upper layers of the skin to absorb moisture and accelerates the dissolution of callus cells.
  • Nail correction plasters/nail fold tape: Toenail plasters are applied to the nail in the case of ingrown nails. Thanks to the special shape along with a special pin in the centre of the plaster, they relieve the nail wall and help the nail to grow out normally.
  • Taping: Adhesive bandages are used for taping to relieve pressure points and reduce friction. Nail fold tapes, for example, work on the same principle as nail correction plasters. They are presented on the outside of the toe to pull the nail wall outwards and reduce pressure on the nail.
